SUNSHINE COAST, AUSTRALIA

Swimming with Sharks and a Sting Ray named Tsunami!!

The Mooloolaba Underwater World is ranked as one of the best in Australia and with small wonder. We spent a full day here and were left wanting some more at the end of the visit.

We got to hold starfish and sea cucumbers and we were as excited as the little children standing beside us!!

The highlight of our visit was the snorkelling experience in the Shark Tank which will  remains as one of the most memorable activity we have ever done!

We were in the tank for nearly an hour swimming close to the wide array of sea life. At one time the shark even grazed passed us which sure got us on edge! Another amazing creature down there is a monster sting ray named as Tsunami who is as big as a king sized bed and causes quite a ripple as he glides past!

I personally loved the snorkeling experience and would recommend it over the Scuba diving thing because it is much cheaper (65 $ instead of 225$), can be booked on same day and it is more interactive in the sense that you get to swim with and above the marine creatures as opposed to walking on the floor of the tank with the fish way above your head.

I would like to thank our guides Shannon and Laura who made the snorkelling experience so memorable. And yes, you do not need any prior experience to do this activity.

Tip : Buy the tickets from the tourist help desk at the wharf (Hire Hut) who, at times if you are lucky, offer adult tickets (38$) for the price of a child’s ticket (23 $)

In case you intend to snorkel or scuba dive in the shark tank, you need to book this direct at the counter. Advanced booking is recommended for both due to limited availability, especially for the scuba diving.

With about 14 talk, feeds and seal presentations throughout the day as well as themed interactive areas like seal island, tidal touch pool and Billabongs to name a few, this aquarium is well worth a visit!
